Craig Larson birding in Itasca State Park
Name: Craig Larson
Home: Minneapolis
Work: Groundwater geologist
Seen: Looking for warblers at Itasca State Park for a birding weekend.
Most unique experience: At Minnesota Twins ballpark we saw a migrating Yellow Rail in left field. It must have confused the field as a wetland and since they hide so well it stood still for the entire nine innings.
Equipment: This is a Swift binocular. I like the old fashion models because they don’t blackout as much and I’ll use a scope.
With $1,000: take more time off work and spend on lodging during the warbler migration.
Advice: Have fun, enjoy the birds, you’re not always going to see rare or new birds.
After birding: I get hungry birding so I like to go out to a good restaurant and have a good meal.
